the ballad of Reading Gaol, which is a word for Jail
and it is a real sad poem and the opposite of healthful or anodyne
the paragraph is this and why I was reciting the poem at circa age 10, I have no idea
He did not wring his hands nor weep,
Nor did he peek or pine,
But he drank the air as though it held
Some healthful anodyne;
With open mouth he drank the sun
As though it had been wine!
I remember a much shorter version, but some kind of longer version is posted here
